Before you begin any work, you’ll want to clean the surface. Cleaning is foundational. Clean the surface with water and soap, as well as solvent-based cleaner. The next step is going to be sanding. You can sand with an 80 grid on a DA. You can sand the area that you are falling down to bare metal since you will be filling it anyways. Applying body filler over paint is not recommended. Once you have sanded it down to the metal, you need to come back and remove the pitted area that the sander can’t touch. There are a couple of different options for this.
